The 2021 motto of BIFED was “Our House is on Fire.” Chosen in response to the devastating fires that year, the theme drew attention to the urgent ecological crisis our planet is facing.
The award design embodies this message: a candle enclosed within a concrete sphere and surrounded by a metal cage. The sphere represents the Earth, while the burning candle inside symbolizes our planet slowly burning from within. This simple yet profound form serves as a reminder of the planet’s fragile balance and humanity’s shared responsibility to protect it.
